Humans hear some music and, for some reason, start moving their body.
Sometimes it’s ballet or bachata. Sometimes salsa, breakdance, or hip hop. Sometimes it’s showing off a few clumsy moves, cooking in the kitchen.
We dance when we’re happy, but also when we’re tired of thinking. Music gives the brain something easier, and weirdly innate, to do: follow the rhythm, lose the rhythm. Whether you are 3 years old, 30 or 90, it’s likely you have the urge to move to the beat. Even if only by tapping your foot.
For an imperfect human, that’s a useful coping mechanism. Just move your body and happy chemicals get released.
You don’t have to solve anything for a few minutes. You don’t need the right words. You can be awkward, stiff, dramatic, off-beat, or everything at once, and no one really cares.
Every dance style asks for something different: control, expression, closeness, distance. None of them ask you to have your life figured out.
Even if you really suck at dancing… for a few moments, it just feels good to move.
So, what are you gonna dance to now?
